  • Beejamandal Temple Overview

Beejamandal is a ruined temple in Jatakari village near Khajuraho that is not yet been fully excavated. The ruins and excavated sites plead the greatness of the temple demolished by Aurangjeb in seventeenth century. First of all the temple had been built in eighth century by Chandela Kings and popularly known as Vijaya Mandir, and reconstructed in eleventh century by Pramara king Naraverman. The building was never finished which can easily be seen by the carved niches and unfinished architectural pieces found round the base of the temple plinth. Muslims claimed the place as their property and the work of excavation stopped by court stay order. Tourists are not allowed to visit the site.
