A pilgrimage tour of Varanasi is incomplete without visiting Sankat Mochan Mandir. This temple is dedicated to Hanuman, who was believed to be the Sankat Mochak (reliever from problems) of Lord Ram. Sankat Mochan Mandir is located on the bank of River Assi in Lanka near BHU. It is said that Goswami Tulsi Das had met Hanuman at this very place and then Goswami Ji decided to build a temple of Hanuman Ji here. It is one of the oldest Hindu shrines in Varanasi which is visited by thousands of devotees daily. An idol of Hanuman facing the idol of Lord Ram is the main attraction of the temple. Devotees should be aware of thousands of monkeys present in the temple complex while taking Laddu to offer as prasads. The festival of Ram Naomi is the greatest festival celebrated in the temple.
