Mansion of Brocade Merchants or Patwon Ki Haveli is one of the most attractive tourist spots in Jaisalmer. It is a cluster of five Havelis built by an affluent merchant of Jaisalmer Guman Chand Patwa in 1805. Patwon Ki Haveli is a five storey Rajputana mansion with traditional Jaisalmer architecture. The five Havelis were built for the family and together, the entire complex forms the largest mansion in the city. It still possesses an ample number of artifacts and stonework that give a glimpse into the regal lifestyle of the Patwa family. Patwon Ki Haveli is one of the three Havelis that are deemed impressive in the city. It is made of yellow sandstone and has intricate detailing. The entire complex of Havelis is beautifully decorated with a variety of patterns carved into the sandstone. Massive gateways and arches are intricately decorated with uniquely designed murals. The interiors are very fascinating with high ceilings, pillars, doorframes, mirror works and paintings. There are 60 traditional Jharokhas and windows, each ornately carved stone frames and latticework that keep the mansion bright with natural light and well ventilated also. The building comes under ASI and is recognized as a renowned architectural and historical site. An in-house museum is run by ASI which has collections of artifacts of those days when Patwa family lived in the Haveli and also some collections of things of cultural importance and custom related artifacts.
