Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is no doubt one of the greatest learning centers in India, but also one of the best places to visit in Varanasi. A great nationalist and renowned lawyer Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya had established the great educational institution of BHU in 1908. Located in the southern side of the city, BHU is built on the land donated by the last Bhumihar Brahman King of Kashi Prabhu Bibhuti Narayan Singh. The layout of the entire campus is semicircular with extensive greenery and well paved roads. The architecture of the structures and buildings constructed in the campus boast Indo-Gothic design. There is an academic section having Language section, Literature section, Science section, Arts section, Commerce section, Engineering section, Medical section, Law section etc. There are 60 hostels accommodating 12000 students, thirteen libraries of different streams of education, a big medical college and hospital, and a big museum of archeological importance. Tourists visiting BHU must visit Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library, Shri Vishwanath Mandir & Bharat Kala Bhawan.
