Assi Ghat is one of the most popular ghats in Varanasi, being visited by locals and tourists both. Students of BHU and other institutions, intellectuals of Varanasi, research scholars and cultural activists use this Ghat as a conference spot and daily they gather here for one or two hours. Assi Ghat is located in the southern part of the city at the confluence of Ganga and Assi River. People visit Assi Ghat for several reasons such as to soak in spiritual atmosphere, enjoy the famous evening Arti, get a glimpse into culture of Kashi and taking a look to various Hindu scriptures like Kurma Puran, Matsya Puran, Padma Puran and Agni Puran. Devotees of Hindu faith come here to take a dip in the holy water of Assi Ghat to earn lots of blessings and also the guarantee for Salvation. Numbers of devotees multiply during some special occasions like Makar Sankranti, Mesh Sankranti, Solar eclipse, lunar eclipse, Ekadashi and Mondays of Sawan. Many tourists visit Assi Ghat early in the morning to see Morning Arti done here just like evening Arti. Morning starts with Vedic enchanting and natures welcome, tribute to Panch-Tatwa, five essential elements of life, classical music by renowned artists and yoga performed by daily practitioners.
