  • Harishchandra Ghat Overview

    Whenever someone talks about ‘truth’, the first name come to the mind is Harishchandra. Harishchandra was a mighty king of Awadh who had to sacrifice everything for truth; the Ghat is named after him. Indian mythology gas a story about King Harishchandra in which he donated everything to a sage and had to serve the master of the cremation place of Kashi which was a Chandaal. Harishchandra served on this very cremation ground so in respect of the great follower of truth the Ghat was named as Harishchandra Ghat. This Ghat is like Manikarnika Ghat, with the belief that being cremated here leads a person to attain Salvation. The tales of the legendry king Harishchandra are narrated with as much zeal today as they were thousands of years back and his character is used as yardstick to measure a man’s honesty and integrity of character.
