Kanak Bhawan is a not only a temple but also a palace covered by artistically carved gold plates. Kanak Bhawan is one of the most visited religious places in Ayodhya not only due to religious aspect but also for its marvelous structure and artistic decorations. It is said by legends that the palace had been gifted to Ram and Sita just after their marriage and the giver was Kaikeyee. The palace was built by Vishwakarma, the architect of gods. This palace was modified as a temple by king Vikramaditya and later renovated by the Queen of Orchha, Vrishbhanu Kunwari in 1891. Some historians believe that Maharaja Kush had modified the palace as a temple and established the idol of Lord Ram and Devi Sita and another pair of deities was established by Lord Krishna in Dwapar Yug. The third pair of idols was established by king Vikramaditya. Three pairs of idols, all of Ram and Sita are still established in the temples made inside the palace Kanak Bhawan. Kanak Bhawan Darshan is a spellbinding experience. The temple itself is extremely beautiful and there is a magnetic pull that draws the pilgrims and visitors towards it.
