Salam/Salim Singh Ki Haveli

There is confusion in the name of one of the Prime Ministers of Jaisalmer Estate; some of the historians call him ‘Salam Singh’, others say ‘Salim Singh’. Salam Singh Ki Haveli is one of the well known palaces in Jaisalmer and considered among top tourists’ destinations of Golden City Jaisalmer. It is also known as Moti Mahal. The Haveli is an architectural wonder, three hundred years old but quite ahead of its time for its unique structure. In the beginning of nineteenth century the Prime Minister of Jaisalmer Salam Singh built a mansion with distinctive architecture, which made the Haveli a must visit place at present days. The admirable mansion has a beautifully arched roof with excellently carved brackets in the shape of peacocks, just below the hill. The walls, balconies are all covered with imperial paintings. Moti Mahal is in fact a part of the Haveli, decorated with artistic paintings and artistic belongings, which was famous those days for dances used to be held in order to entertain the courtiers and the royal aristocrats. This beautiful architectural building Salam Singh Ki Haveli is one of the major attractions of Jaisalmer.
