Balagarh Fort also known as Pokhran Fort is a fourteenth century heritage monument built with red sandstone. The architecture of the fort is mixed blend of Mughal and Rajasthani designing. The fort consists of wide courtyard, carved stone pillars, arched porticos, Jharokhas, Chhatris and domes demonstrating the blend of the two architectures. The fort houses many Palaces such as Mangal Niwas, Phool Mahal, Hawa Mahal and Rani Mahal. A Hindu temple dedicated to goddess Durga is situated here, and said to be built with the fort, perhaps for the celebrations of festivals and rituals. Amongst the palaces, Mangal Niwas which is the main hall of the Pokhran Fort is quite uniquely built with octagonal shaped Jharokhas that protrude out of the walls. The palaces form a complex in the center of the estate which is enclosed by a stone fortification which was built to protect the fort from intruders. Pokhran Fort has a museum and a library, having collection of hundreds of antique items of fourteenth century, handicrafts, paintings, portraits, terracotta, pottery, attires and apparels of royal family, arms, weapons and many more in the museum, and thousands of books, classic documents, journals and collection of hand-written royal orders in the library. The interiors of the fort are decorated with regal colors and patterns. Each part of the fort has a lush green well trimmed lawns fountains and courtyards. The walls, arches and pillars bear beautiful carvings, mostly depicting the Mughal style of Architecture. Some part of the fort has been converted into hotels for tourists/guests serving in typical traditional Rajasthani hospitality.
