  • Tanot Mata Temple Overview

Tanot Mata Temple is situated at Tanot village of Jaisalmer very close to Indo-Pak border. The temple is dedicated to Tanot Mata, believed to be an apparition of the Hinglaj Mata Goddess. Tanot village of Jaisalmer has become a prominent tourist attraction after Indo-Pak war in 1971. It is said that despite the shelling of nearly 3000 bombs from Pakistan border, not one exploded in the vicinity of the temple. The unexploded bombs are till date treasured in the Tanot Museum within the temple premises. After that war the management of the temple is in the hands of BSF of India. Indian army has built a Vijay Stambh within the temple premises and every year on December 16 a celebration takes place to commemorate the victory of India over Pakistan.
